Cactus Café / branding & packaging / México 2021
El Cactus is a Mexican brand of coffee produced in Oaxaca with a unique symbolism. In Latin America coffee is a sacred beverage, on one hand, it wakes us up in a daily basis as a society, on the other it is able to unite us in a sunday afternoon. Therefore, El Cactus seeks to become the motivation and motor for waking up as well as the perfect excuse for meeting an old friend.
In some cultures it’s believed that when you give a cactus as a present to someone you are gifting them strength and peace, in others you gift a cactus in order to provide them protection.
The beauty of its symbolism can also be related with coffee; a cup of coffee in the morning gives you strength, a cup in the evening provides peace and a cup at night bestows protection. Our main challenge was to represent these perfect blend of symbols and to honor our heritage within the visual identity. We designed a couple of illustrations to represent the values and principles of the project and created some creative texts to find the voice of the brand.
